Sabih Khan Appointed Apple’s Chief Operating Officer
Apple has officially named Sabih Khan, an Indian-origin executive, as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), set to take over from Jeff Williams later this month as part of a planned leadership succession.
A seasoned insider of three decades, Khan began at Apple in 1995 within the procurement division and was promoted to Senior Vice President of Operations in 2019. In this role, he has overseen every facet of the company’s global supply chain—planning, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, and product fulfillment—while leading critical sustainability and supplier responsibility programs.
Born in 1966 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, Khan moved to Singapore during childhood and later earned dual bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering and economics from Tufts University, followed by a master’s in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Before joining Apple, he worked as an applications development engineer at GE Plastics.
Under Khan’s leadership, Apple has pioneered green manufacturing innovations, expanded its U.S. production footprint, and cut its carbon emissions by more than 60%.
CEO Tim Cook praised him as “a brilliant strategist” and “one of the central architects” of the company’s supply chain, while Williams expressed confidence that Khan is the “most talented operations executive on the planet”.
Williams will retain oversight of Apple’s design team, Apple Watch, and Health initiatives until his retirement later this year, after which those teams will report directly to Cook.
As COO, Sabih Khan is expected to guide Apple’s operations through global trade uncertainties and increased iPhone manufacturing in India, building on his proven expertise in operational resilience and sustainability.
